Dead Island - Vacation of DEATH

Although first teased in 2006, it seems the game is back with a few things learned from Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising, and others to be turning into a Zombie genre reanimating experience. First the game takes place on the tropical island of Banoi, in Papua New Guinea. I'm curious if they will be able to bring a sort of claustrophobic fear from being stuck on an island. It is a first-person perspective game which to my delight brings back some of the survival horror of zombie games I loved so much from the early Resident Evil's. Finding a gun is a luxury in this game and even if you do you will want to conserve your ammo. You will have a plethora of melee weapons and options to choose from and much like Dead Rising you will be able to customize and upgrade weapons you find. Some examples would be an electrified axe or exploding daggers. But what's unique in bringing the survival horror into the gameplay is the player's stamina. You will not be able to just swing away forever with your heavy axe at every zombie that comes at you. Every jump, run, swing chips away at your stamina and when you run out you are left with no actions to take for a short period. So when you see 7 zombies in a room you have to gauge what resources you have, what you can do, and which zombies may just be better to dance around and avoid all together.

According to more sources which have had first hand play experience, there is a variety of zombies as well. The beginning levels have the slower moaning zombies, which I love while in the later levels they become the running sprinting cannibalists of recent trend, hate that trend undead ankles should be breaking everywhere. In addition to these zombies gauging in difficulty there will also be some mutated ones and unique boss zombies as well.

From taking a break since 2006 to work on other things Techland seems to have really studied well into combining many of the great things of a variety of zombie games into one ambitious one. Now if there is going to be more emotional moments like in their debut trailer this year, I'm seeing the recipe for a masterpiece! Looking forward to learning more and get my hands on this game.
