New Law Bans Late Night Gaming in Korea

The Chosun Ilbo today reports a new law was just unanimously passed banning young teens and children 15 and under from playing online games between midnight and 6am. The purpose for approving a program to shutdown underage gamers is in an attempt to battle game addiction. With the requirements of including your social security number to register for PC gaming online in Korea it makes sense how they can regulate this through online PC gaming. "The Culture Ministry argues that it should apply only to online games played on computers, while the Family Ministry insists it should include all platforms."

It would be unbelievable if they could somehow apply this to consoles and other platforms as well. That would require enforcing agreements with Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and Telecom providers to implement this program. On PC they can simple add a requirement for an automated age-gate or fine PC cafes who allow 10 year old's staying over night on their PCs. Which seems to be the intended purpose.
